DHAKA, Bangladesh - A 12-year-old boy from Gopalganj was discovered without a passport, ticket, or boarding pass on a Kuwait Airways flight at Dhaka's International Airport early Tuesday.
The boy, Jonayed Molla, managed to board the international flight despite Dhaka Airport's security measures.
Jonayed Molla, son of Imran Molla of Paroihati village in Gopalganj, is a student of a local madrasa.
According to airport sources, passengers boarded the Kuwait Airways flight (KU-284) from Dhaka at 3:10 a.m. on Tuesday.
While the plane was being prepared for takeoff, the cabin crew noticed Jonayed, 12, standing on the plane and asked him to sit. The boy then sat down.
When the designated passenger for that seat arrived, the cabin crew wanted to know if Jonayed was with anyone and asked for his boarding card and passport. Jonayed did not answer.
The cabin crew discovered one additional passenger during a headcount.
Later, checking the passenger list confirmed that the child was not a registered passenger. Jonayed was removed from the flight and handed over to Aviation Security (AVSEC).
Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Md Touhidul Islam said on Wednesday that Jonayed visited Dhaka Airport for sightseeing.
"After arriving, he roamed and entered the airport without any hindrance," he continued.
According to an airport official, Jonayed was seen in the CCTV footage blending in with various groups of passengers, giving the impression that he was with them.
He was able to enter the airport in this manner. He later joined a group of passengers, which allowed him to avoid security and board the flight.
Airport police confirmed that Jonayed Molla was handed over to his family early Wednesday.
Yusuf Molla stated that his nephew, Jonayed Molla, is highly mischievous and frequently runs away from home.
Meanwhile, the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) suspended ten officials and formed a five-member investigation team to investigate the incident.
